Connaught Village, the retail quarter of the Hyde Park Estate, is to host a dog show for the first time, as part of this year’s Summer Festival, on Wednesday 15 June.

The annual festival will see the Village transform into an abundance of colour, live music, and plenty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, including  Blue Badge walking tours, a children’s art exhibition, fairground rides, Victorian Stalls as well as giant games such as Jenga, bowling and Connect 4.

The Hyde Park Dog Show is being run in association with the Hyde Park Veterinary Centre. The show, which has five different categories, will take place at 4.30pm on Connaught Street, where a red carpet and white picket fence will provide the perfect backdrop for owners to show off their prized pets. Categories are:

Show 1: The dog that looks most like its owner – 4.30pm

Show 2: The dog that only a mother could love – 4.45pm

Show 3: The dog with the best trick – 5.00pm

Show 4: The dog with the waggiest tail – 5.15pm

Show 5: The Hound of Hyde Park: the best groomed dog – 5.30pm

The Hyde Park Veterinary Centre will also use the festival to unveil their brand new, state-of-the-art clinic and shop, located at 63 Connaught Street. The clinic will have two new consulting rooms, and a brand new reception area, creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere for pets and their owners.

The current entrance at 61 Connaught Street will become The Hyde Park Pet Centre - a brand new shop stocked with a wide variety of pet foods, all with an emphasis on healthy ingredients and responsible sourcing. Also available is a range of pet toys, accessories, clothes, collars, leads and other fun pet-related items.

Downstairs will house a brand new operating theatre, dental suite and diagnostic imaging area and will have a fully re-equipped in-house clinic laboratory for top level medical and surgical care.

In addition, Susannah Wheeler, 'The Belgravia Dog Nanny' is launching her dog crèche service from the Connaught Street clinic. Leave small and well-behaved dogs with Susannah for days of frolics, fun and most importantly canine companionship. They will be fed, exercised, entertained and well looked after ready for collection at the end of the day.

Nick Fowles of the Church Commissioners comments:

“We are delighted to be having a dog show at the this year’s Connaught Village Festival. It is a fantastic addition to the festival line-up and we have had a great response from both locals and wider London residents, all who want to compete in the Village’s first-ever dog show. We are very grateful for all the support from The Hyde Park Veterinary Centre who will be running the show on the day, and it has also provided them with a wonderful opportunity to unveil their fantastic new clinic to the public. We hope that this will be the first of many dog shows in Connaught Village!”

Entry forms for the dog show can be found at the Hyde Park Veterinary Centre at 61-63 Connaught Street. Closing date for entries is Monday 13 June. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Mayhew Animal Centre.
