Damian Woodford

Born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Damian's interest in fine art developed whilst studying English Literature at Lancaster University. Inspired by the works of Albert Irvin, Howard Hodgkin and Nicolas de Staël, Damian developed his distinct use of abstraction, texture and colour whilst completing a Master of Arts in Painting at York University.

Damian's work pulls apart the components of landscape painting, refining shapes to bare gestures. Using decorator’s brushes and palette knives, he applies primary and secondary colours to create different planes and layers of texture. Through the arrangement of abstract forms, he creates a visible depth and tension across the field of the canvas.
