Kjell Folkvord

Kjell moved to London from Norway in 2010. Largely self-taught, Kjell believes that his most important tools are his intellect, life experience, aesthetic sense and identity. Painting became his full time occupation approximately 12 years ago.

Kjell was brought up as a farmer’s boy in the south west of Norway and was destined by law to inherit the family farm. However, an allergy to animals meant this was impossible and he left to pursue his education.. Kjell worked with young people, first as a teacher, then as a social worker and probation officer before returning to education as a headmaster. His desire to create a better world led him into political activism for many years.

Abstraction is his preferred expression, “I have huge freedom, and what is better to express concentrated emotions than this abstract language?” Kjell’s paintings are true emotional expressions of an investigation of his mind or memory; colours being the letters in his painter’s language. Kjell’s wish is for people to identify feelings of their own when they look at his work; rather than seeking to “understand” them. Kjell works at Delta House Studios.
